CURRICULUM

The M. M. Higher Secondary School follows the curriculum of Central Board of Secondary Education and National Curriculum Framework with reference to the guidelines. The curriculum practices in our school are learner centric.

 

The M. M. Higher Secondary School envisions a robust, vibrant and holistic school education that will foster excellence in every sphere of human endeavour. We are committed to provide quality education to promote intellectual, social and cultural vivacity among our learners.

We work towards evolving a learning process. In this direction, we have introduced various techniques.

To achieve academic excellence by conceptualizing policies and their operational planning to ensure balanced academic activities in the schools we are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education. The Interactive Method of Teaching and Learning introduced in CBSE has upgraded our standard of learning. These practices support the students in developing their understanding, thinking and communication skills and the school follows the curriculum given by CBSE and accordingly, we strive to provide Scheme of Studies, academic guidelines, enrichment activities.

  • Major objectives of the Curriculum are:
  • To define appropriate approaches of academic activities to provide stress free, child centred and holistic education to all children without compromising on quality
  • To analyse and monitor the quality of academic activities by collecting the feedback from different stakeholders
  • To develop norms for implementation of various academic activities including quality issues; to control and coordinate the implementation of various academic and training programmes of the Board.
  • To adapt and innovate methods to achieve academic excellence in conformity with psychological, pedagogical and social principles.
  • To develop qualities that make a child socially effective and happy in various social settings such as friendliness, cooperativeness, self-disciplines, self-control, love for social justice etc.

 

  • Major objectives of the Curriculum are:
  • To develop pre-vocational/vocational skills, willingness to work hard, dignity of manual work and job satisfaction.
  • For understanding of the environment and its limited resources and the need for conservation of natural resources and energy.
  • To develop the ability to appreciate and discover beauty in various life situations and integrate it into one’s own personality.
  • To develop knowledge of scientific methods of inquiry and its use in solving problems.
  • To facilitate schools and teachers to make decisions about choice of content, pedagogy, teaching, and learning material, evaluation etc, at school level.
  • To give schools and teachers flexibility and ownership to plan and develop alternative curriculum modes to meet their varied needs.
  • To help to review school curriculum, learning and teaching strategies and to develop school assessment policy.
  • To help the teacher in becoming a reflective practitioner who learns from their own experience.
  • To emphasize learning with understanding and learning to learn, and help children develop their own understanding based on their life experiences.
  • To set out what students should know, value, and be able to do at the various stages of schooling.

Curriculum is discovery and activity-based learning along with some formal interactive classroom learning in order to lay a solid ground work in reading, writing, speaking, physical education, art, languages science and mathematics. Here, at The M. M. Higher Secondary School we strive our best to achieve the desired outcomes at all the stages through a well-planned curriculum.

 

  • Pre School – Class II

At the foundational stage we focus on Play-based, flexible and multilevel learning. In The M. M. Higher Secondary School we believe that each child is different and grows, learns and develops at his own pace. Play and activity are the primary ways of learning and development.

 

  • Children at this stage will undergo following domains of development:
  • Domain: Physical Development
  • Children develop habits that keep them healthy and safe.
  • Children develop sharpness in sensorial perceptions.
  • Children develop a fit and flexible body.

 

  • Domain: Socio Emotional and Ethical Development
  • Children develop emotional intelligence i.e. the ability to understand and manage their own emotions.
  • Children develop a positive attitude.

 

  • Domain: Cognitive Development
  • Children observe and understand different categories of objects.
  • Children develop Mathematical understanding and abilities to recognize shapes.

 

  • Domain: Language and Literacy Development
  • Children develop effective communication skills for day-to-day interaction.
  • Children develop fluency in reading and writing.

 

  • Domain: Aesthetic and cultural Development
  • Children develop appreciation for the beauty of the natural world around them.
  • Children develop their art skills by increasing their aesthetic ability.

 

 

 

  • Class III – V

At this stage too, curriculum supports experiential learning and it provides continuous opportunities to students to experience, explore and experiment with the environment, learning about social participation and contribution. The pedagogic strategies at this stage enable pair work, small group work and individual works, discovery and activity-board learning along with interactive classroom learning in order to lay a solid ground work in reading, writing, speaking languages science, mathematics, arithmetic, supplemented by EVS, general science, civies, arts, culture and physical education.

 

  • Class VI-VIII

At this stage along with pedagogical and curricular style of the preparatory stage, learning and discussion of more abstract conception in each subject like science, mathematics, arts, arithmetic, supplemented by history, geography, general science, civies, arts, culture, physical education and environmental science, social science to introduce Experiential learning within each subject and exploration of rotation among different subjects is encouraged. Focus on regular assessment of learning rather than the summative assessment is emphasised.

 

  • Class IX-XII

The secondary and senior secondary curriculum prescribed by CBSE strives to provide ample scope for holistic i.e. physical, intellectual and social development of students, conceptual understanding, problem solving, creativity and critical thinking to encourage logical decision making, innovation, enhanced and support learning by different types of assessment. Continuous series of programs based on sustained research and regular assessment by educational experts is incorporated in the curriculum.
